SCAM text message |
||
|
Good afternoon
Please can I make you aware of the pictured SCAM, which was sent to someones private phone. As they had already received a similar text in the past, they knew that it was a SCAM.
The circumstances regarding the SCAM - The text you receive will normally refer to you as ‘MUM’ or ‘DAD’ as the scammer won't be aware of who you are. The scammer will hope that you actually are a Mum or Dad and that you have children who have a mobile phone. They will state that they are your son or daughter and are using a friends phone, as their phone is lost or damaged. They will state that they need you to send money to help them pay to have it fixed or replaced. This is highly likely to be a SCAM, but as precaution if you have children who have a phone, contact them to see if they have sent you the text. It might be that you have no children so straight away alarm bells should be ringing that this is a SCAM. If you receive a text like the one pictured, there will be an option to report the text message as ‘spam’. If you report it as spam it will send the text to your network provider for them to investigate. If you don't have the ‘spam’ option, then you can forward the message by texting it to ‘7726’ which is free of charge and will be sent to your phone network provider's fraud department for them to investigate. After you have forwarded the text to 7726 you will then receive a message asking you for the mobile number that sent you the text. This will normally be at the top of your screen.
Once you have reported the text, you can then delete it.
Many thanks
Karl
